Our story

Welcome to Sunstone Gardens. I'm delighted that you're here! My name is Maria, and I am the gardener and the face behind Sunstone Gardens. I am a wife and a mother of three. I love to grow flowers, explore wild places and hike lesser-traveled trails. Nature is my greatest inspiration and source of joy.

I grew up on a farm nestled in the stunning Polish mountains, where some of my fondest childhood memories were made. I’d run through the forests, fields, and meadows, eagerly looking for Pani Wiosna (Lady Spring). I loved picking the first flowers of spring and creating lovely bouquets for my dear mom. My “house” was a lilac tree, and my dolls? They were simply ears of sweet corn! As life got busier, I found myself far away from those lush green mountains and instead living amid the golden hills of sunny California. I lost touch with that farm life and my love for gardening, but my fondness for meadows and fields never went away. When my kids became teenagers and the pandemic hit, I felt a strong pull to reconnect with nature. That’s when the idea of growing bearded irises came into play, and from there, my admiration for plants and gardening blossomed into a garden bursting with color! I started sharing these lovely flowers with my neighbors and friends, hoping to spread a little brightness and comfort in their lives. After all, who couldn’t use a bit of joy and kindness these days!

Today, I’m excited to say I cultivate nearly 800 varieties of dahlias, 500 types of irises, and a wonderful mix of lisianthus, gladiolus, sunflowers, daffodils, ranunculus, anemones, and lots of roses.

I know that life can get a bit hectic, but I truly believe that nature can be a source of happiness and peace. You deserve to come home after a busy day to a gorgeous bouquet of farm-fresh flowers just waiting for you. These flowers are more than just beautiful; they’re a warm hug of gratitude, relaxation, admiration, love, and peace.
