Our story
Welcome to Sunstone Gardens. I'm delighted that you're here! My name is Maria, and I am the gardener and the face behind Sunstone Gardens. I am a wife and a mother of three. I love to grow flowers, explore wild places and hike lesser-traveled trails. Nature is my greatest inspiration and source of joy.
I grew up on a farm in the Polish mountains. My early childhood memories include running freely through forests, fields, and meadows, searching with anticipation for Pani Wiosna (Lady Spring), collecting first spring flowers and making bouquets for my dear mother. My “house” was the lilac tree and my dolls were ears of sweet corn.
As the years went by, life only became busier and my beloved lush green Polish mountains with snowy peaks were replaced by golden rolling hills of hot California, I forgot about the farm life and gardening. My love for mountains, fields, and meadows still remained. With my children entering teenage years and the pandemic, a big desire to find solace in Mother Nature came. I had the idea of growing bearded iris in my garden. With that flower, my fascination and admiration for plants and gardening only grew stronger, and one flower soon became a garden filled with the plethora of colorful blossoms.
These flowers were gifted to neighbors and friends to brighten their days and refresh their lives — bringing joy, kindness, healing and relief from the daily stress of life.
Today, I cultivate nearly 500 varieties of dahlias, 200 varieties of irises, and multiple varieties of lisianthus, gladiolus, sunflowers, daffodils, ranunculus, anemones and roses.
Sometimes life can be hectic and I believe nature can bring so much joy and happiness.
I believe you deserve to come home after a long day and be greeted by the bouquet of farm fresh flowers waiting there just for you. These are more than just flowers, they’re a feeling of gratitude, relaxation, admiration, love, and peace.
And that’s the feeling Sunstone Gardens wants to offer to you with our beautiful flowers.
Planted organically, nurtured with love, fresh hand picked flowers are the best gift that you can give to yourself and to others!
“ Flowers always make people better, happier, and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul.”
- Luther Burbank
